Darya Ganj or Daryaganj located in Old Delhi is world famous for it’s Sunday book market. So famous in fact that Daryganj has become home to many of the worlds largest publishing houses. Companies like S. Chand & Co., Prentice Hall India, and Oxford University Press.
On Sundays the streets are lined with vendors and their books for sale. You’ll find new and used books in just about every Indian language as well as English.
Arrive early. You’ll need the time to work your way through the hundreds of thousands of books up for sale.
The food in Daryganj attracts a lot of locals too. Look for dishes like Baniyaan of Gupta ji, Devi ke Kulche, or Pindi ka Dahi. You’ll find food for everyone’s palate. North Indian, South Indian, Streetfood (Chaat), Vegetarian, ice cream, snacks, and sweets, and even Chinese food.
